For the past 8 years, I have had the honor to serve much of Duluth in the Minnesota Legislature. Over that time, we have seen many accomplishments for our city, region, and state. I have worked hard to build relationships across the aisle, amongst stakeholders, and I am a believer that effective policy is more important than politics. Consensus building is the core of effective legislating, and I am hoping to gain the support of Duluthians who are worried about their future, access to good paying jobs, quality education, and affordable health care as we prepare for the coming recession.
Party endorsing conventions have become less and less effective over the past few years. And this year, in the midst of a global pandemic, the process was even less inclusive than usual. We can’t let flawed processes controlled by a handful of party insiders determine who represents us. For this reason, I am committing to running in and winning the August primary, where I will ask for support from Duluth in my re-election effort to the Minnesota Senate. I am confident that my moderate and inclusive approach to legislating will resonate with Duluth voters.
AFSCME Council 5, representing more than 43,000 public sector employees has endorsed Minnesota State Senator Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) in his bid for re-election to the Minnesota Senate in 2020.
“I am so proud to have earned AFSCME’s endorsement,” said Senator Simonson.
“Representing our public employees is a great honor and I will continue working to provide our public employees with opportunity and prosperity.”
Senator Simonson has also received the endorsements of the Minnesota AFL/CIO, MN Professional Fire Fighters, SEIU, MAPE, 49ers Operating Engineers, Teamsters, Iron Workers 512, IBEW 242, IBEW Statewide Council, MN DFL Senior Caucus and MN DFL Veterans Caucus.
